Clamping Down on Internet Piracy

Internet piracy is quite a big problem, and it seems that this problem is getting more serious. Sometimes I am wondering what the best way is to reduce Internet piracy. After reading different articles on the subject, I believe that the most effective way is to hold Internet Service Providers responsible. This way they would be able to cancel someone’s Internet connection, if they detected that a person is downloading illegal materials. Do I think that such measures should be taken? There are a few ways to look at it.
Some will disagree with this approach for many reasons, even though it is the most effective way to reduce piracy. There is a concern that ISP’s are not legal experts, and they
do not know which materials are copyrighted in the first place. They are prone to error, and they might even accuse someone of illegal activity if they think that he is using up too much bandwidth. They might do it just because they will want to save bandwidth for financial reasons. Another problem is that we cannot trust ISP’s to the degree of allowing them to spy on us. There are surely going to abuse their powers in some cases and might even track confidential data.
